What are Wedding Favours?

Wedding favours are given to wedding guests to thank them for attending, generally at the beginning of the breakfast or after. Favours can range from sweets to alcohol to something unique and personal. 

What is a Traditional Wedding Favour?

Traditionally it used to be sugared almonds. Why sugared almonds? The practice originated in Italy, and it is thought the bittersweet taste of almonds signify life’s ups and downs; the sugar coating is a good luck charm so that the newly married couple will enjoy sweeter times overall.

Commonly given as an odd number such as five to wish Health, Wealth, Happiness, Fertility and a Long Life, the odd number is indivisible, representing the unity of the bride and groom. In Greece, if you are single, by placing the almonds under your pillow, it is thought you will dream of your future spouse.

A modern wedding favour can be anything you want it to be; it depends on how far your budget will go. Popular favours are chocolates, personalised love hearts, candles, miniatures and keyrings. Some couples will include disposable cameras for the day, doughnut walls, and even slippers for the night’s end. 

What Wedding Favours can you give to children?

If you have children attending a wedding, this is where you could entertain them, other than the usual chocolates. You could make small packs up of colouring books and pencils to engage.
